David and Caroline Harper

Caroline Harper, a native of Nantes in Brittany, France, came to the U.S. 30 years ago to work as an au pair for a family in South Carolina. She stayed to earn a degree in Fine Arts at the University of South Carolina, and to raise her daughter, Elle. She worked as a graphic designer and fashion retailer before hearing her true calling – to create a successful textile arts business, CHI design indigo, in the historic port city of Charleston. Yet around that same time Caroline heard something else calling -- France. In 2016 she found a petite maison in a Languedoc wine village where she could begin to call France home, once again.

David Harper, originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, built his career saving the places people love from being developed. He works with families, communities and local land trusts to conserve natural areas, farms and historic sites to support healthy communities for people, plants and wildlife. He also assists Caroline with growing indigo plants and producing dye. David’s passion for land and culture translates well into his natural attraction to all things French.

Caroline and David both deeply cherish the experience of discovering two very distinct parts of the world -- the American South and the South of France – and sharing with others the qualities that make both regions unique.
